Senate President Stephen Parry has ordered senators to behave themselves as parliament returns for 2016.
Fresh from the long holiday period, Senator Parry on Tuesday reminded senators that backchat and arguing with the chair was "disorderly".
"The level of noise and interjections in the chamber often makes it impossible for me and others to hear and adjudicate on questions and answers," he said.
