Senate could debate uni reforms early

The fate of universities could be decided sooner than expected with a Senate committee tabling its report on the bill five days early.

The report, which recommends the higher education reforms be passed, needs to be given to the Senate before the legislation can be considered.

It was tabled on Friday, meaning debate could be brought forward to Monday.

However, the government says it still plans on leaving debate on the bill to Tuesday.
