Self-described hippie from Victoria hits the jackpot with million-dollar Keno win

A middle-aged battler from the Mornington Peninsula who spent her last four dollars on a Keno ticket has struck it lucky, pocketing more than $1 million in a win that was caught on camera.

Baxter woman Debbie Bell was at the Baxter Hotel in Melbourne's south-east on Wednesday night, out of work and down on her luck, when she decided to spend four dollars on a Keno game.

The move paid off, with the 54-year-old's ticket winning her $1.17 million, all caught on camera by the hotel's security CCTV.

"The girls were shaking and Brad though I was having a ditzy day and dreaming," she said.

Partner Brad Pinney said Ms Bell came out "pale and screaming" and he though she was "full of it".

Bartender Julie Wood said it was just as surprising for her and the fellow staff members.

The self-confessed hippies will give some of the cash to their six children, and pay for a wedding, but said the money won't change who they are.

"The first thing she wanted to do this morning was go to the Salvation Army and buy a coat that she liked," Mr Pinney said.

Ms Bell has lived on a farm in Baxter for four years, and despite striking it rich, said she won't be trading it in for a mansion because she cannot imagine living anywhere else.
