Security beefed up for Ariana Grande's Australian concerts

Concert venues around the country have heightened security ahead of Ariana Grande’s Australian tour, enforcing a strict no bag policy.

The security crackdown comes in the wake of the deadly terror attack at her Manchester show which killed 23 people in May.

Venues hosting her ‘Dangerous Woman’ concerts in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will all enforce the no bag rule, with authorities only allowing concertgoers to bring in a small, clear plastic bag.

Professional cameras, laptops and iPads are among the items banned.

Concertgoers will be screened and some may be searched before they enter the venue. The new rules are some of the strictest to ever be enforced at an Australian concert.  

“This has all been planned in conjunction with the promoter… in this day and age I think people will understand and appreciate that we really need to take care of our patrons,” ICC CEO told 9NEWS.

The Australian leg of Grande’s tour kicks off in Melbourne next week before performing for 16,000 fans in Sydney on Friday and Saturday night.

Fans have been warned to arrive early and be prepared for the heightened security, which has come at the request of Grande herself.
