A father spearfishing with his son has been washed out to sea on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Emergency services were called to Laggers Point, near Trial Bay Gaol at South West Rocks, after reports a spearfisherman had been washed off rocks about 1pm.

A 53-year-old man and his son were spearfishing in nearby water when a large wave pushed them onto rocks.
