Search underway for hit-run suspect in regional Victoria

Police have re-launched their search for the driver responsible for a hit-run that left a motorcyclist seriously injured in the regional Victorian town of Pearcedale last month.

Investigators believe a green Subaru station wagon collided with the motorcycle on Baxter-Tooradin Road about 4.30pm on Tuesday, October 11.

The Subaru driver, a man believed to be aged in his 50s, fled the scene after stopping briefly and failing to give assistance to the injured 56-year-old motorcyclist, police believe.

Motorcyclist Peter Kaighin suffered a several broken bones and is using a wheelchair at a Victorian rehabilitation facility.

“I’m very lucky to be alive,” the father of three told 9NEWS.

“It’s disappointing the driver doesn’t have the courage to be accountable for their actions”.

“I’m also concerned for the rest of the community that this person is still out there driving,” he added.

Police have released a composite image of the possible suspect, based on information provided by witnesses.  

The man is described as Caucasian and 170 cm tall with a solid build. He has a ginger-grey beard and thin grey-white, shoulder-length hair.

An image has also been released of a Subaru similar to the one involved in the incident.
