Missing hikers found safe in regional Victoria

A pair of hikers spent the night in their car after it became bogged in an isolated part of regional Victoria.

Police and emergency service workers spent the day searching by air and foot for the missing pair who were found this afternoon.

Arthur, 50, from Murrumbeena and a 37-year-old Oakleigh East woman were not injured.

Police confirmed the couple's car was bogged near Glenelg River Road, and they had to walk out of deep bushland to notify authorities.

They walked about 12 kilometres to get phone reception before they could contact anyone.

"A lot of things go through your mind," Arthur said after the ordeal.

"But overall we just decided to stay in the car and be safe."

The pair initially set off on a 4WD trip on Friday and were last seen leaving the Royal Mail Hotel at Parker Street in Dunkleld about 11am on Sunday.
