Police escalate search for missing rocket launchers linked to ISIL terrorists: report

Police are reportedly escalating the search for five rocket launchers believed to be buried in Sydney bushland by a terror cell linked to ISIL terrorists Khaled Sharrouf and Mohamed Elomar.

The rocket launchers were among 10 stolen by former Army captain Shane Della-Vedova from a military facility in Orchard Hills in 2002, The Daily Telegraph reports.

The report claims members of the Pendennis Nine terror cell, who planned to attack high-profile Sydney targets and are serving jail time, know where the rocket launchers are hidden but have refused to tell police.

Khaled Sharrouf, who allowed his young son to pose with the heads of Syrian soldiers, was convicted and sentenced to four years jail for his role in the Pendennis plot.

Mohamed Elomar, a wanted terrorist who has posed with the heads of Syrian soldiers on social media, is reportedly the nephew of Pendennis Nine member Mohamed Ali Elomar.

NSW and federal police have reportedly ramped up the search for the missing rocket launchers following the government’s decision to raise the national terror alert level to high.

“NSW Police continue to actively investigate these missing weapons,” the spokesman said.

“We will continue to ­explore a range of avenues to recover them.”

The NSW ­Counter-Terrorism squad and the AFP are expected to have their ­resources boosted following the increase in the terror threat level on Friday.
