Teen who saved family member feared drowned at NSW South Coast beach
A search is continuing today for a teenager who went missing while swimming at a New South Wales surf beach yesterday afternoon.
The 19-year-old man was swept out to sea in a rip after he had helped another family member who had encountered difficulties in the water at Congo Beach, south of Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast.
A desperate search was launched by emergency services around 3.30pm but the man could not be found before nightfall.

The search, involving helicopters and boats, resumed at 7am today.
There were 281 drowning deaths nationally according to latest national drowning report, which reports deaths from July 2022 - June 2023.
