German backpacker feared missing in WA found alive and well

A German backpacker feared missing near the Western Australian mid-west coast has been found alive and well, after a rescue operation was launched this morning.

Last Saturday, the man, who said his name was Daniel, had stopped for a drink of water along the banks of the Gascoyne River.

It’s believed he was walking from Carnarvon to the Mount Augustus National Park, an estimated total walking distance of at least 452km.

An air and land search commenced today out of fears for the man’s welfare.

WA Police said a small aircraft spotted the man near Mooka Station, about 180km east of Carnarvon.

Officers on the ground reached him and said he was in good health, however he had been taken to Carnarvon for medical assessment.

WA Police thanked the public for their assistance with the search.
