Nando's pokes fun at Corby release
Too soon?
Burger chain Nando's has quickly capitalised on the news of Schapelle Corby's release from prison with a light-hearted post on its Facebook page.
"Schapelle, now that you're out, try our delicious peri-peri chicken," read the image.
"The only bars you'll see are on our grill."
The joke sparked immediate controversy, with commenters torn over whether it was appropriate.
One commenter declared it a "classic" while another deemed it a "social media fail".
A Nando's spokesperson defended the gimmick on Facebook, explaining the brand "has built its reputation on being a bit challenging and cheeky."
"It's not our intention to offend people, just to be a bit tongue in cheek with something that's gaining a lot of media attention," the spokesperson said.
"We wish Schapelle and her family all the best."
