SBS gets $4m after ad plan fails

The federal government is giving SBS more than $4 million after an attempt to give the public broadcaster more advertising flexibility failed to clear parliament.

The mid-year economic and fiscal outlook, released on Tuesday, includes $4.1 million in 2015/16 to replace revenue which couldn't be raised by legislation voted down by the Senate in June.

The changes would have allowed SBS to increase its peak-viewing advertising cap from five to 10 minutes per hour.
