Liberal MP Sarah Henderson 'doesn't want to be the Member for Cox'

Liberal MP Sarah Henderson doesn’t want to be the Member for Cox. 

She said the proposed name change for her electorate is the subject of “some ridicule.” 

“I don’t really want to put delivering for Cox on my corflutes,” Ms Henderson said on Sky News. 

The Australian Electoral Commission is proposing major changes to electoral boundaries in ACT and Victoria. 

The proposal includes changing Ms Henderson’s seat of Corangamite and renaming it Cox, after swimming icon May Cox who pioneered a learn to swim program in Victoria. 

Ms Henderson says she’s perfectly happy being the Member for Corangamite, which is an Aboriginal word and is fighting against becoming the Member for Cox. 

“There are all sorts of things that happen in Parliament, including when a member might be asked to withdraw," she said.

"I mean, as I say, I want to keep this conversation clean... but it is the sort of name, I've already been subjected to quite a bit of ridicule.”

“Ms Henderson says it’s important to keep links with Aboriginal heritage and a name change is very big deal.”
