Samarco protest planned at BHP AGM

Protesters plan to greet BHP Billiton executives outside the mining giant's annual general meeting in Perth, accusing them of "token sympathies" after the deadly Samarco mudslide disaster in Brazil.

Charles Roche from the Mineral Policy Institute, Nikola Casule of Greenpeace, GetUp's Sally Rugg and a BHP Billiton shareholder are scheduled to hold a press conference before the 10am WST meeting.

"BHP Billiton's token sympathies reek of a company attempting to fend off a PR nightmare, but GetUp members are holding them to account for one of the biggest environmental disasters ever seen," Ms Rugg said.
