THE STRUGGLE OF IMPOVERISHED AUSTRALIANS
HOUSING
* 40 pct of people moved house nearly three times in the past year
* 37 pct of women who moved in the past 12 months cited family violence as the main reason
* 68 pct cent are suffering extreme housing stress
* 17 pct cent homeless or in temporary accommodation
* 37 pct cent of homeless people had experienced persistent homelessness for two years
GOING WITHOUT
* 86 pct report severe deprivation and go without five or more basic items a day
* 89 pct don't have $500 in savings for emergencies
* 66 pct can't afford dental treatment
* 50 pct have cut down on basic necessities, use emergency relief vouchers and borrowed money from friends, family
* 43 pct have gone without meals
INCOME
* 85 pct receive government income support
* 70 pct who didn't work said they had a physical or mental health condition
* 42 pct of people looking for work had been out of work for more than a year
CHILDREN
* 20 pct of parents can't afford medical treatment or medicines prescribed for their child
* 42 pct can't afford a yearly dental check-up for their child
* 60 pct can't afford an internet connection for their child.
