Salvage operation underway to save washed up boat on Sunshine Coast

A salvage operation is underway after a boat washed up on Mooloolaba Beach.

A wrong turn saw the 'Matahari' run aground late last night.

The unexpected beachgoer has become quite the attraction, with hundreds of locals lining the beachfront to watch the rescue efforts.

The salvage team said it will be a tricky operation to remove the boat from the shore.

Crews will attempt to drag the boat up the beach to further assess its condition.

If the vessel remains structurally sound, crews will lift it out using a crane.

Another option is to demolish it on the sand and remove it in pieces, authorities said.
