The 31-year-old had hoped to post bail in time for Easter but his application was held up by paperwork regarding his $200,000 surety.

He has been behind bars since January on a charge of perverting the course of justice.

That related to an alleged conspiracy, with five others, over an allegedly staged car crash on the day he was due in court for assaulting a taxi driver outside the Star Casino.

He was involved in a two-vehicle crash on October 16 while en route to Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years.

Mehajer was in jail when found guilty on February 23 of assaulting Channel Seven reporter Laura Banks by crushing her with a car door as he attempted to leave Sydney CBD police station.

However, a conviction was imposed without any other penalty for the assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
