Sailor dies after falling off yacht during race

A man has died while competing in a yacht race in Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay this afternoon.

Police said the man aged in his 70s was on the vessel with two other teammates when he fell into the water offshore from Brighton about 12.30pm.

One of the competitors tried to revive the man, but he died at the scene.

The deceased is yet to be identified.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
