Errant cigarette may have triggered blast at Adelaide home

Police believe a cigarette may have sparked an explosion which left two people with serious burns at a home in Adelaide's south today. 

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were injured in the blast at the Hackham West home this afternoon. 

Both were airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, with the man suffering life-threatening injuries to around 70 percent of his body.

The woman suffered serious injuries leg injuries in the blast, which shattered windows at the home.

The man's cigarette coming into contact with a can of flammable liquid is believed to have triggered the explosion.

Witnesses have seeing their pair running from the home with their clothes alight. 

"He was just screaming, he was in a lot of pain," neighbour Steve Hall said.

"While he was hosing himself down I went in and called triple zero."

Investigations into the explosion continue.
