Tourism, renewables could save Leigh Creek

Tourism and renewable energy could give Leigh Creek in outback South Australia a new lease on life after Alinta Energy's mine closure.

More than 30 people and organisations have submitted proposals for the town's future. These include boosting tourism, finding a new use for the old mine site, and capitalising on the region's mineral and renewable energy resources, Manufacturing Minister Kyam Maher says.

Alinta Energy last year pulled out of the purpose-built mining town, sacking about 200 workers.
