Signs to lead those in bushfires to safety

Bushfire safety signage will be installed across South Australia to help people fleeing a blaze.

The Last Resort Refuge signs will be placed at 96 spots across the state, typically leading to parks or recreation grounds, but Minister for Emergency Services Peter Malinauskas says they should never be intended destinations.

The Country Fire Service has introduced two categories of safe places in the event of an emergency, Bushfire Safer Places and Bushfire Last Resort Refuges.

The Last Resort Refuges were developed for those caught in a fire with no where else to go.

"Last Resort Refuges are not a Bushfire Survival Plan," Mr Malinauskas said.

"They should be considered as a last option only, when all else has failed."

There are about 400 Bushfire Safer Places.
