Seventh member of Datta family dies

The seventh and final member of a South Australian family has died weeks after a car accident in India.

The future of Adelaide's Urban India restaurant is also in limbo after co-owner Rupendra Datta, 48, died on Wednesday from his injuries more than two weeks after a car crash killed the rest of his family.

His wife Anamika Datta, 45, daughters Neetika and Pipsas, 12 and 15, and sister-in-law, Sonia, 25, died while travelling from New Dehli to the Taj Mahal earlier in January.

The Datta's 17-year-old son, Digvijoy, died later in hospital while Mrs Datta's father, N K Paliwal, died from a heart attack after being told about the tragedy.

The crash was thought to have been caused by a burst tire which sent the car into a safety rail before it flipped and landed in the path of oncoming traffic.

Family friend Namit Mangal, who works at Urban India, told AAP he was still in shock over the family's deaths.

"He [Mr Datta] was a gem of a person. He was one of the best mates I had. He was always there. He was generous too," Mr Mangal said on Thursday.

The restaurant initially closed after the accident but reopened last week.

It has closed again in the wake of Mr Datta's death.

"We're still trying to get our heads together in terms of what to do about the business, in terms of everything," Mr Mangal said.
