An Adelaide teenager has been charged with taking down computer systems at a government department, school and internet provider.

The 15-year-old was on Thursday arrested for temporarily disabling the systems in what's known as a "denial of service" attack, police allege.

He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Youth Court on May 12 charged with the unauthorised impairment of computer systems, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years.
