SA opposition urged to back energy laws

South Australia's Energy Minister is urging the state opposition to back legislation aimed at giving the state more control over its energy network.

Tom Koutsantonis says the opposition has no excuse not to have declared its position on the legislation, which was introduced to parliament two weeks ago.

The proposed changes to the state Emergency Act, part of the state government's energy plan, will give the SA energy minister certain powers to protect local consumers at times of a declared electricity emergency.
