South Australia's government has brushed off Uber's criticism of state taxi reforms, saying other ride-sharing providers will fill the gap in the market.

Uber has called on the government to remove "arbitrary red tape" before it accepts an invitation to start operating in SA from July 1.

"What we're seeing is some of (Uber's) competitors signalling early and loudly that they are wanting to set up here in South Australia, and that's a good thing for consumers," Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan told reporters on Wednesday.
