An alcohol ban in Adelaide's inner-city parklands has been extended, despite fears it may be displacing vulnerable residents.

South Australia's cabinet has approved an Adelaide Council proposal to extend the trial until September 22.

The trial, implemented in December following complaints of drunken violence, prohibits drinking in the parklands between 8pm and 11am.

Consumers Minister Gail Gago says extending the trial will allow for more conclusive data to be collected.

"This is a complex issue and the decision to extend was made with careful consideration of all those affected," she said on Friday.

"An interim evaluation has found a majority of people support it and there have been positive outcomes."

Community groups have warned the ban may be pushing disadvantaged people away from vital support services in the city.
