Investigations continue into the cause of a crash southeast of Adelaide that killed the driver of a car that collided with a truck.

The car, believed to be driven by a 50-year-old man from Marden, caught fire after crashing into the truck on the Dukes Highway near Coomandook about 9.30am on Wednesday, police say.

The driver died at the scene and the truck driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The highway was closed between Tailem Bend and Coonalpyn but has since been reopened.

South Australia's road toll now stands at 101 compared to 98 this time last year.
