Notorious SA murderer on assault charge

An Adelaide woman who murdered and dismembered a pensioner in a sinister plot to steal her victim's house has faced court accused of a jail assault.

Angelika Gavare, 39, was jailed for at least 32 years in 2011 for murdering 82-year-old Vonne McGlynn in Adelaide in 2008.

During her trial, the judge was told Gavare broke into Mrs McGlynn's home, then killed and dismembered the elderly woman before using a stroller to dump the body parts in a nearby creek.

Gavare stole the pensioner's bank cards and furniture and intended to take over her house and sell it, motivated by "sheer greed", the judge said.

Mrs McGlynn's head and hands have never been found.

On Monday, Gavare appeared via video link in the Holden Hill Magistrates Court on an assault charge.

Gavare is alleged to have assaulted another person in May 2014 at Adelaide Women's Prison, where she is serving her life sentence.

The matter was adjourned until April 2.
