Teenage girl threatened with tomahawk in home invasion

A teenager has been hurt and her father left terrified after a gang of bandits stormed their home at Edwardstown, south of Adelaide.

The four suspects forced their way into the family's home by smashing a window around 3am today.

Once inside police say they terrorised the father and threatened his 14-year-old daughter with a tomahawk axe before stealing her phone.

Police rushed to the Arabrie Avenue property as the offenders fled.

Two jumped in a car and sped off, with officers forced to halt a pursuit because of the dangerous speeds shortly after.

The two other suspects ran from the scene. One was found by a police dog hiding in a garden, while the other got away.

The girl was taken to hospital in shock.

A friend of the family, Nina, told 9News she's concerned.

"I'm worried about her. it's really terrible. It's obviously dangerous and not very good at all," she said.

Local residents were also left terrified by the attack.

"It's disgusting. You should be able to be safe in your own home and obviously you can't be," one resident said.

"It's not right and I hope the police catch them."

The arrested boy, a 17 year old from Black Forest, is in custody and has been interviewed by police.

The search continues for the other three attackers.
