The alleged attacks took place on February 9. (9NEWS)

The man accused of kidnapping and raping two backpackers on a remote beach in South Australia allegedly met the pair on Gumtree when they asked for someone to drive them interstate.

The Brazilian and German women posted separate ads on Gumtree's rideshare service asking for a lift from Adelaide to Melbourne, The Adelaide Advertiser reports.

Police will argue the alleged attacker, an Adelaide man aged in his 50s, responded to the ads and drove the women to Coorong where the attacks occurred on February 9.

A taskforce is probing the accused's past, fast-tracking DNA analysis and checking missing persons registers nationwide.

Authorities have also scoured the alleged attack site and surrounding area in search of clues.

The focus of the search remains the mobile phone of the Brazilian victim, who has since left South Australia.

The German woman visited the site with detectives last week but remains at the Flinders Medical Centre, where she is in a stable condition.

New facts about the police case against the suspect were laid out by the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Ian Press, SC, at a hearing yesterday but he successfully applied for the information to be suppressed.

The accused followed the hearing via video link from prison.

He is yet to enter a plea to charges of attempted murder, rape, aggravated cause serious harm and detaining a person to commit an indictable offence.

The case will return to court in April.
