Lamington world record attempt in SA

A supersized version of the nation's favourite cake may have landed Australia another Guinness world record.

A line of lamington measuring more than one kilometre in length - that's about 20,000 pieces - was crafted at the Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC) on Thursday.

The centre says the current record for the longest line of cakes, held in England, stands at 885 metres.

ACC chief executive Alec Gilbert said the lamington chefs used a traditional Country Women's Association recipe in bid to make the challenge authentically Australian.

"We're quietly confident of setting a new world record and are working hard to ensure we fully comply with the strict Guinness World Records guidelines," he said in a statement ahead of the record attempt on Thursday.

The massive lamington, baked with more than 400kg of flour, snaked its way through the ballroom, meeting rooms and foyers of the ACC's new western building.

It's understood the record is yet to be verified by Guinness World Records.
