SA furniture factory gutted by fire

Firefighters have brought a blaze that gutted a furniture factory in Adelaide's northern suburbs under control.

Emergency workers arrived at Beilby's furniture factory in Wingfield on Monday afternoon to find the building engulfed in flames.

The fire was under control and no longer posed a threat to the public, a Metropolitan Emergency Services spokeswoman said.

The building was safely evacuated and firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to a nearby tyre factory.

However, the furniture factory suffered extensive damage, the spokeswoman said.

People with respiratory problems in Wingfield and surrounding suburbs have been told to say inside and close doors and windows until the smoke subsides.
