Crews monitoring SA bushfire hot spots

Fire crews are monitoring a contained bushfire in the Adelaide Hills, with heavy rain easing the threat of flare-ups.

South Australian authorities declared on Thursday the Sampson Flat bushfire had been fully contained, six days after the destructive blaze began.

The fire destroyed 27 homes, burnt through almost 13,000 hectares and left 134 people, mainly firefighters, injured.

While most residents have been allowed to return home, the Country Fire Service warned on Friday there was still the potential for hot spots to reignite.

"The public must remain vigilant for potential or existing hazards," the CFS said.

Former state water security minister Karlene Maywald has been appointed to co-ordinate the government's recovery efforts.
