Commission to hear more about SA pedophile

A royal commission examining the crimes of pedophile childcare worker Shannon McCoole will continue with evidence from one of his employers.

Before working for Families SA, McCoole was employed at a local agency that also provided staff to help children in residential care.

It was during his time with this company that his most serious offending began and more details of that offending are expected to be revealed at South Australia's child protection royal commission on Tuesday.

McCoole was eventually arrested in 2014 and subsequently jailed for 35 years in August last year for 18 state and two federal offences, including persistent sexual exploitation of children, sexual intercourse with children, and the production and dissemination of child pornography.

The royal commission hearings are expected to run for about six weeks with the more than 80 witnesses to include those involved in hiring McCoole and those who worked with him.

McCoole has indicated he will co-operate with the commission although a decision has not been made on whether he will be called to give evidence.
