An Adelaide man, 34, has been charged after he allegedly knocked a service station attendant to the ground while driving off without paying for petrol.

The man was filling up a Ford sedan with mud-smeared number plates on Saturday, and when an attendant from the Salisbury Downs service station went to confirm the details the man got in the car and drove off, knocking the woman over and failing to pay, police say.

The attendant was taken to hospital for minor head injuries. The man was charged with multiple driving offences, including dangerous driving causing harm, and he will appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
