Cannabis crop found underground in SA

A large hydroponic cannabis crop has been discovered growing inside an underground water tank in South Australia.

The sophisticated set-up was found during a police search of a property in Hillier, north of Adelaide, on Friday morning.

A 54-year-old man was arrested at the property and charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis and possessing prescribed equipment.

Photos from the scene show cannibals plants packed inside the water tank with large lamps fixed above them to help them grow.

"A disused underground water tank was revealed to be housing a large hydroponic cannabis crop," police said in a statement.

The man was bailed to appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court on June 19.

The find follows several other similar but unrelated drug searches and arrests across SA earlier in the week.

A 35-year-old Angaston man was charged with drug trafficking on Thursday after police found three cannabis plants growing in his backyard and 580 grams of dried cannabis.

"These seizures are a significant step towards ensuring the safety of our local community," Barossa Inspector Cameron Devey said.
