BankSA to close 20 regional branches

BankSA will close 20 branches across South Australia because of an unprecedented drop in over-the-counter transactions.

The bank says only three per cent of transactions in country SA occur over-the-counter.

But it says it has set face-to-face services in nearly 300 Australia Post stores to soften the blow to customers.

It will also offer certain services through some rural and remote local council offices.

"We know change like this can be unsettling and we will work closely with customers who may require assistance with accessing banking alternatives in their community," BankSA chief executive Nick Reade said.

The changes will affect 36 part-time jobs and workers will be redeployed or made redundant from February.
