Appeal possible in SA terror case

The lawyer for an Adelaide woman charged with being a member of Islamic State is considering an appeal against a court decision to refuse her bail.

The 22-year-old Kenyan-born woman appeared by video link in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday where she was remanded in custody on a charge of being a member of a known terrorist organisation.

A prosecutor told the court the woman remained a radicalised Muslim who had pledged allegiance to the leaders of Islamic State in October last year.

The court heard that she remained a danger to the community and a flight risk.

But defence counsel Craig Caldicott said the case against his client that had been outlined so far was "wafer thin" and to deny her bail would result in her remaining in custody for many months or possibly years if she was sent to trial.

"She appears to be OK when we've been speaking to her but obviously she's concerned because she's in jail," he told reporters outside court on Friday.

"It's the first time she's every been in jail, in custody."

Mr Caldicott said it was his instructions that the woman was innocent of the charges and would continue to fight the allegations.

The woman's case will return to court in August.
