Adelaide's pygmy hippo Obi turns one

Adelaide's pygmy hippo Obi has celebrated his first birthday with a special fruit and vegetable cake.

Obi is settling in well to his new home at the Adelaide Zoo after moving from Melbourne earlier this month, keeper Mary Johnson says.

"He's eating well and getting used to his new routine, although he does love to sleep in," she said on Wednesday.

"He's very inquisitive and has enjoyed exploring his new home and especially loves swimming."

Obi's cake might not look like one but his species - native to western Africa - lives off fruit, leaves, roots and grasses.
