SA toughens vaccination policy for kids

Children whose vaccinations are not up to date will be made to stay home from government preschools and childcare centres if there is an outbreak of illness.

Parents with children who are enrolled in government preschools, occasional care, family daycare, or respite services will be asked to provide evidence of their child's immunisation status.

And if there is an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease such as chickenpox, measles or mumps, then children who do not have up-to-date immunisation records will be banned from attending school until SA Health decides when they can return.

SA Health Minister Jack Snelling is also looking to draft laws which will give childcare centres the right to refuse the enrolment of unvaccinated children.
