SA's Bangor bushfire contained

The long-running Bangor bushfire has been contained, with light rain falling in South Australia's Southern Flinders Ranges.

The CFS on Thursday said fire activity had decreased near Napperby, Beetaloo, Laura, Stone Hut and Wirrabara.

There are now control lines around the perimeter of the blaze and the only fire activity is well within the control lines.

The blaze, which began on January 14, has burnt through more than 35,000 hectares and had a perimeter of 195 kilometres.

"Although three houses were lost and six sheds and more than 700 livestock, firefighters saved six other houses from being destroyed and there were no serious injuries," CFS spokesman Chris Metevelis said.

"There is now no active fire on the edges where it had previously been burning."

Light rain in the area has assisted firefighters.

"However, the predicted heavy rainfall may hamper their efforts, making some unsealed roads on the fireground hazardous for vehicles," Mr Metevelis said.

About 200 firefighters will remain in the area over the next few days to patrol and extinguish hot spots.
