SA premier apology for forgotten candidate

South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill has apologised for forgetting the name of a Labor rural candidate for the March 15 state election.

On a weekend visit to Crystal Brook in the seat of Frome, a local reporter asked Mr Weatherill about the absence of Marcus Connelly, prompting the premier to ask "who is Marcus Connelly?"

Mr Connelly later told Fairfax Media he was considering his position as a candidate, saying it was not ideal that the party leader did not know his name.

Mr Weatherill told journalists on Tuesday he had phoned Mr Connelly and apologised for his "discourtesy" during a "very pleasant discussion".

"He accepted my apology and I am sure he will recommit himself as the Labor candidate for Frome," the premier said.
