Man found guilty of manslaughter over death of resident at Adelaide boarding house

A man living at an Adelaide boarding house on Carrington Street who kicked and stomped on a fellow resident has been found guilty of manslaughter.

Luke Robert John Ford went to trial over the killing in October 2014 of Robert Fitzsimmons.

Ford, 29, was found not guilty of murder at the South Australian Supreme Court today, but guilty of manslaughter by Justice Malcolm Blue after a trial by judge alone.

The trial was told that Ford had only moved into the boarding three days before the attack, which was unprovoked and came as Mr Fitzsimmons was drunk and drugged.

Prosecutors said a post mortem examination revealed Mr Fitzsimmons, 53, had suffered 14 blows, with at least six caused by stomping or kicking.

Justice Malcolm Blue will hear sentencing submissions at a later date.
