SA driver in hospital after tree hits car

A young woman is in hospital with serious chest injuries after a tree fell on her car while she was driving in Adelaide.

The woman, in her early 20s, was driving in suburban Unley on Tuesday morning when the tree fell in windy weather, says an ambulance spokeswoman.

She had to be freed from the vehicle before being taken to the Royal Adelaide hospital.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds for most of the southern parts of the state.

The winds may affect those living in the Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Mid North, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of the Flinders and Murraylands districts.

A complex low pressure system and associated vigorous fronts will move across the south of the state during Tuesday and Wednesday, the bureau said.

Strong northerly winds, squally showers and possible thunderstorms are forecast to develop with the first front.

Damaging wind gusts of more than 90 km/h may also occur with and following the first front, mostly with showers or thunderstorms.
