Young girl injured by ride at the Royal Melbourne Show

A young girl has been injured on a popular ride at the Royal Melbourne Show.

The primary school girl, 11, was riding on "The Fury" with her mother about 5.30pm yesterday when she injured her arm.

The ride operator hit the emergency button, stopping the ride. The girl was removed and taken to hospital in a stable condition where she remains today.

CEO of the Royal Melbourne Show, Paul Guerra, said officers from WorkSafe Victoria had worked long into the night and were back again today trying to uncover the cause of the problem.

"I can confirm the girl was safe in the ride and she was removed safety from the ride," Mr Guerra said, adding they were yet to determine how the injury was sustained.

"Our job here is to keep everybody safe and unfortunately that young girl and her family didn't have that experience yesterday," he said.

Mr Guerra confirmed that the ride was close immediately after the incident and said it was "highly unlikely" it would re-open for thrill-seekers at this years show.

The description of the ride on the show's website describes it as not being "for the faint heated" and standing "over 40 metres tall, rotating on three axis at speeds up to 125 km/h."
