Rock thrower targets car with toddlers on board

Toddlers are among the victims in a spate of rock-throwing incidents in Melbourne’s north.

CCTV obtained by 9NEWS shows a man in a red car hurling a rock at a white Subaru on Napier Street, Strathmore, yesterday morning.

Inside the Subaru were Kate Mackintosh and her two young sons, who were left shocked by the incident.

“We didn’t know what it was at first…when we turned around we saw a big rock in the middle of the road,” Ms Mackintosh said today.

She told 9NEWS she managed to get a glimpse of the offending driver.

“He looked like a man with a big bushy beard.”

While Ms Mackintosh’s car mirror was left hanging by its wiring, fellow driver Leanne was left needing a new windscreen after a similar incident on Pascoe Vale Road.

She said the rock bounced on the bonnet, smashed through the glass and landed in the car, adding it was “lucky” neither she or her partner were injured.

“It could’ve been a lot worse.”

Along with Ms Mackintosh and Leanne, police said at least three drivers were targeted by rock-throwers on Bell Street, Preston, between 10.30am and 11.10am yesterday.
