Family and friends hold vigil for murdered Loganlea dad

A Queensland man who allegedly killed his neighbour by stabbing him in the neck has been remanded in custody.

Dakota Tihirua Ruka-Pohe, 27, was charged with murder yesterday, accused of stabbing Robert Watene, 33, in the neck as he got out of the car in which they were both travelling at Loganlea, south Brisbane.

It is understood the pair had been at a party on Saturday night before Mr Watene offered his neighbour a lift home.

The fight occurred outside a block of units on University Drive. 9NEWS understands Watene’s three children were asleep inside, but his partner witnessed the fight that led to his death.

A candlelight vigil was held for Watene last night.

Ruka-Pohe is also facing two counts of serious assault after allegedly spitting in the faces of two female police officers.

He appeared emotional in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today before being remanded in custody to reappear again on January 23, 2019.
