Jewellery thieves filmed running to getaway car after daylight smash and raid in Melbourne

Three masked robbers have been filmed bolting to their getaway car after raiding a jewellery store in Melbourne’s east.

Video obtained exclusively by 9NEWS shows the offenders in black clothing running towards the blue Subaru station wagon around 12.30pm.

Moments before, police allege the trio stormed Holloway Diamonds on Canterbury Road in Canterbury.

The offenders then used machetes and hammers to smash cabinets in the shop.

They fled the scene in the vehicle, with the registration 1IC 4SG, with an unknown quantity of jewellery.

The store’s owners and staff were inside the store at the time of the robbery, Detective Inspector Anthony Cecchin told reporters this afternoon.

“No one was injured, but you can put an estimate on the psychological trauma these events have.”

Det. Insp. Ceccchin revealed it was the second time since January the jewellery store had been targeted.

He said police were investigating whether the robberies were linked.
