Tram derailment in Melbourne CBD all clear

A tram on Collins Street Melbourne's CBD derailed earlier today after crashing with a cement mixer.

The intersection of Collins Street and Exhibition Street was closed in all directions, but the scene has now been cleared.

Motorists were asked to use Russell, Flinders, Spring or Bourke streets.

Department of Transport's Andrew Crook confirmed to 3AW the intersection had closed.

"A lot of drama going on down there," he told Dee Dee Dunleavy this afternoon.

"We've got Fire Rescue Victoria, paramedics, police and of course Yarra Trams crews to hopefully get that tram back on the rails."

Route 11 and 12 trams were diverted via Bourke Street and route 48 trams travelled along Flinders Street.

Route 109 trams were diverted via La Trobe Street between St Vincent's Plaza and Stop Batman Park.

Nobody was injured in the crash.
