Man who lost eye in road rage incident 'forgives' alleged attacker

A Somalian refugee who lost his eye in a shocking road rage incident has declared he intends to forgive his alleged attacker.

Roble Abdikarin fled Somalia five years ago and moved to Perth.

The father-of-two was driving out of Bentley Plaza shopping centre last month when he was allegedly involved in a minor accident with cyclist Jahrah Kruger.

The cyclist then allegedly opened the car door and punched Mr Abdikarin in his ribs and right eye before stabbing his arms repeatedly with pens he'd snatched from the centre console.

Mr Abdikarin managed to push his alleged attacker out of the vehicle.

But a court heard Mr Kruger grabbed the keys out of the ignition, punched the passenger window and smashed the windscreen before riding off.

Mr Abdikarin was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital.

His right eye was so badly damaged it had to be surgically removed to prevent a brain infection.

But Mr Abdikarin says he believes his biggest loss has been his freedom, as he is now too scared to walk down the street.

"I always feel, whoever approaches me wants to attack me," he said.

Mr Kruger fronted court today on six charges, including grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail.

But his alleged victim had one message for him behind bars.

"I always forgive, I'm going to forgive him," Mr Abdikarin said.
